The good news is that solar energy systems are not high maintenance and costs on solar panel maintenance are very low as there are very few moving parts.

For flat solar panels ensure that they are kept relatively clean.

Check installation still firmly attached

Check seals are weather tight and watertight

Ensure any ventilation areas are clear

Ensure no rusting or persistent condensation occurs

Internally check for leaks and that it is working at correct pressures

Annual checks conducted by you should highlight any potential problems.

Calling in an approved engineer every few years to check components such as wiring or batteries should ensure optimum running for the system.

More complex systems may require a little more maintenance such as replacement of anti-freeing fluids and general tank and pump checks.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on any nearby trees - a little bit of pruning could let more sunlight through.
