GRANTS FOR SOLAR ENERGY

Incentives – solar panel grants and feed-in tariffs for solar energy systems in the home – from MySolarPower

It is worthwhile spending time checking out all of the available green energy grants and incentives for solar power system installations, as they are each designed for specific applications.

To obtain a grant the installation must have been put in place by a certified solar installer.

Other points that will be taken into consideration are the energy efficiency properties of the house - such as high standards of wall and loft insulation.

The grants scheme is managed by the Energy Savings Trust go to www.energysavingstrust.org.uk for further information and also how to contact a certified installer.

Note – the Low Carbon Buildings programmes are now closed for further applications

Grants are not payable on DIY schemes.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) – Get paid to produce your own heat for your own home – for the next 25 years - planned for April 2011

FEED-IN TARIFF

Under the Clean Energy Cashback scheme you can be paid to produce electricity through solar panels for the next 25 years. (Whether you use it or not)

From April 1 Feed-In Tariffs (FITs) were introduced in the UK.

Householders receive regular payments from energy supply companies for generating their own electricity.

The scheme pays a minimum payment for all electricity generated by the system - any exported to the grid gains a separate payment as well.

To qualify a system has to have been installed between 15 July 2009 and 31 March 2010, or after 1 April 2010.

The system must be a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and installed by an approved MCS company. Go to www.energysavingstrust.org.uk for in-depth information of MCS and ROO-FIT schemes.

Even check out your bank! – Some banks are offering green loans.

If your system qualifies you will be eligible for:

1 Generation tariff - energy suppliers will pay for each unit of electricity generated. The rates will be set on entering the scheme, and...

2 Export tariff - on top of the generation tariff a further 3p/kWh will be paid for each unit exported to the grid rather than being used on site.

AND

An added bonus is you also save money on your electricity bills!!
