Solar water features

Gardens and ponds, inclusive of water features, have not escaped the much needed sensible use of renewable energy systems through solar technology.

Whether it is a system for oxygenating a pond or simply a water feature, they key element hinges around solar powered water pumps – with many systems already incorporating the storage of the solar energy so that it may be utilised when you wish to. When these systems were first explored that were fairly unsophisticated so only worked in direct sunlight, but not it is possible to program the solar water feature to operate when you want it to, and most now are supplied with their own solar panel and AC adapter.

The solar panel are usually supplied with an adjustable stand so that you can maximise positioning and angle to capture the suns energy at its peaks allowing up to 5 hours of use on a fully charged battery and coupled to the automatically recharging battery back-up.

These solar water features have the added advantage in a garden setting of being wireless, so that the system can be placed where you want it.

Some advertised features still require direct sunlight but many now have adopted the principals of PV solar panel energy storage so that the features may be enjoyed as required.

For those requiring a practical application the solar powered pond oxygenators are heaven sent for those of us who care for fish – many are now powered by a separate solar panel with a full battery back-up system to enable the user to oxygenate the pond water both in sunny weather and at night, and is particularly suitable for ponds with no oxygenating plants.

These solar water feature pumps and solar pond oxygenation equipment are relatively inexpensive, have no trailing wires, nor need trenches etc to install and, are almost free to operate and maintain.
